Editing Post #1

Our first day of editing didn't exactly go as we had ORIGINALLY anticipated, but then again we are all relatively new at this so I'm not sure what we were expecting. Tyler took initiative and was the first one out of our group to really attempt editing, but it was still a group effort in the end. Tyler worked on iMovie, which slowed us down a little bit because not only were we, for the most part, decently confused on HOW to edit, but we also couldn't exactly all edit at once, which was a major issue in our editing. (This is foreshadowing; we actually fixed this issue but I'll talk about that at a later time). As stated in the "First Day of Shooting" blogpost, most of the scenes that we filmed were... not the best. Or quite frankly, just not up to par with what we were expecting. But, we knew that if we waited to edit all the way until AFTER we got the "perfect" shots, we wouldn't have been able to gather the much needed editing experience and attempts.

So, we (mostly Tyler), began to edit what we DID have. Which, at this time, was a few basic shots of us introducing our characters along with each mugshot, a choppy first attempt at an establishing shot, and also our current "argument" scene, just as a filler for now. We focused on jump cuts for these scenes, and didn't really apply many transitions yet, because jump cuts would allow us to create that "off-balanced" feeling and effect.

Tyler's editing. (With my luck, Tyler took a photo right when my mugshot was on the screen, but that's irrelevant.)

Honestly, there isn't much to SHOW regarding our first day of editing, because iMovie was not the best application for us, and later on we ended up changing applications of which we hope that Editing Day 2 does better with.

The main problems that we ran into were really just realizations that we had made about our editing process, and how it was going to need to change in the future. For example, the fact that iMovie wasn't really working for us was a major issue, because how would we edit without a good software that worked for us all? We eventually (this is me editing the blog after the fact) had changed to DaVinci Resolve, allowing multiple people to edit, which solved that issue. Our other concern was the time it was going to take, but there really isn't much of a solution to that yet, we just need to continue to work hard.
